9月17日 Thank you for the inquiries. Thank you for all the inquiries. I should be more considerate and tolerant. Take care, my friends! 6月18日 Eternal Source of Light Divine
I have to admit the version sang by Elin Manahan Thomas, is one of the best performances of this piece I have ever heard, if not "the best". Quote YouTube - Elin Manahan Thomas - "Eternal Source of Light Divine" 5月20日 Little ToleranceAfter surfing YouTube for another hour, I conclude that I have little tolerance to music that are off-key. Neither do I have tolerance for choral work that does not have harmony. I can easily get annoyed by those "harsh" music, especially, when the piece being played is one of my favorite. Don't get me wrong. I like YouTube, and I do appreciate people's courage that they uploaded their work onto the website. In addition it is I who opened those video clip and hence I have no right to complain at all. However, my ears have become picky after I have been singing in different chorus for more than a decade, and have listened to so many nice versions of different work. I guess, I can't make a good choral conductor any more. Should I stand in front of my peers at Fudan, they would hate me. I would, however, recommend the work by the following groups: Libera, St. Phillip's Choir, King's Singers, Chanticleer, The Tallis Scholar, and among others. I bet majority of singers in these groups are talented themselves. Some of them can serve as soloist without trouble. Yet, when they sing in the chorus, they come together naturally. However, I can easily tell the voice of each individual singer's in some Chinese music group. Btw, composer Eric Whitacre is calling for a "youtube" choir on his blog,. This is an experiment. Folks can record part of "Sleep" and upload to youtube. Later, he might combine these videos and make them into a "youtube" choral work. Due day is end of June. I am personally interested and intend to participate. Only hope that I won't be the one who created chaos. 2月3日 Tax SeasonI got a mail from the state today, saying that I've got an Income Tax Overpayment and/or Refund for Taxable Year 2007. What the heck did they do earlier? I should have received it 6 months ago, and now it's almost the time for me to file my tax form for Year 2008. Guess I should still be grateful for the fact that they eventually remembered to send me the mail. 1月18日 End of Circuit CityOn Jan. 16, 2009, the 2nd largest retailer for consumer electronics announced liquidation of the store. It has only been 2 months since the company filed bankruptcy on Nov. 10, 2008. I guess this is the end of the gigantic chain store. I went to a local store yesterday evening. Quite some people went there, with full carts of products. People were taking advantage of the liquidation sale, so was I about to. I suddenly feel sad, gloomy, even it's falling has long been predicted. Surfing around, noticing those price reducing signs in black and red, I just can't believe. But for the economic crisis, they might survive longer. Yet now, it's the end. I always have good experience with the store -- low price, good services. Of course, you can argue that the low price (including price match) is one of the reasons that lead to their end. Now I am afraid of more severe oligopoly. Where shall I go, Best Buy or Walmart? One additional note: inevitably, the unemployment rate in Richmond will increase sharply in the next 2 months. What might happen to the city? |
